We know how busy life is. Women have many roles and finding time to care for their own health can be challenging. Fresh Market’s Women’s Health Services offer a simplified, no appointment needed, low cost solution for common health issues that affect women. Fresh Market’s Pharmacies offer consultation and prescription services for hormonal contraception (birth control), uncomplicated urinary tract and vaginal yeast infections.

Urinary Tract Infection Treatment

If you think you might have a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), come visit any of our convenient Fresh Market’s pharmacies. Juggling a busy schedule is hard enough without trying to find time to visit a clinic, so skip the trip to the clinic by visiting Fresh Market’s pharmacies for evaluation and necessary treatment, no appointment needed.

Check for Symptoms

Although not usually serious, UTIs should be treated quickly.
The symptoms below are some of the most common signs of a possible UTI:

  • Burning or pain while urinating
  • Frequent urge to visit the bathroom
  • Lower back or abdomen pain
  • You feel tired or shaky
  • Your urine color is abnormal

Yeast Infection Treatment

Yeast infections are common in women, at least 3 out of 4 women will experience a yeast infection in their lifetime. Although yeast infections are common and usually not serious, they can cause great discomfort. Visit Fresh Market’s pharmacies for a single-dose prescriptive treatment, no appointment needed.

  • Abnormal and unpleasant discharge and odor

The role of pharmacists in Utah continues to expand. Utah passed the Utah Hormonal Contraceptive Law, Family Planning Access Act Utah Code 26-64-104 which authorizes pharmacists to write and dispense birth control prescriptions to female patients 18 years and older.

Beyond the extensive training required to become a pharmacist, each of Fresh Market’s Pharmacists has undergone additional training to provide these clinical services. Fresh Market’s Pharmacists are required to complete nationally accredited Certification Programs and demonstrate knowledge of clinical practice recommendations prior to providing any of the Women’s Health Clinical Services.

We are excited to offer this convenient new service, however, patients are still encouraged to visit with their primary care provider on a regular basis for all recommended check-ups. Per Utah State Law, patients must attest they have met with a healthcare provider every 2 years to participate in a Pharmacy Hormonal Contraceptive program. Prescription hormonal contraception (birth control) does not alleviate the need for other health screenings that only your doctor can provide.

What to expect during your visit

We understand potential sensitivity around the birth control service and want to ensure every patient feels comfortable discussing their birth control options with our pharmacists. Most of our pharmacies offer private consultation rooms, allowing for confidential discussion. Patient privacy is of the upmost importance. Each pharmacy team member will take every precaution to ensure your privacy and make you comfortable during your visit.

Our pharmacies accept walk-ins and have extended business hours to help you get in and out quickly.

  1. Complete a brief questionnaire.
  2. Our trained pharmacist will provide a short consultation, including a blood pressure check, review your medical history and discuss your birth control options.
  3. You will be provided with a birth control option and use instructions.

FAQ's

How old do I have to be?
Due to state regulations, women must be 18 and older to use these services. If you are pregnant, please schedule an appointment with your doctor.

What is the cost of the consultation fee and what does it include?
There is a low-cost fee, not covered by insurance but eligible for HSA. If you are dispensed medication, you may choose to bill your insurance for the medication. Upon visiting our pharmacy for a consultation, you can expect the following:

  • Complete a brief questionnaire
  • Review medical history and discuss symptoms with the pharmacist
  • You will be provided with a personal treatment plan and care instructions

How long will the consultation take?
It is important to allow time for proper treatment and evaluation but on average, the consultation takes around 20 minutes. * * Wait time may vary during peak times.

Do I need insurance?
No, insurance is not required to take advantage of this service. Pharmacists are not able to bill Prescription or Medical insurances for the required pharmacist consultation. However, if you have insurance and qualify for a prescription, your insurance can be used to cover the cost of that prescription. The out-of-pocket consultation fee and any prescription copayment must be paid at the time of service.

What type of birth control prescription is available?
Once qualified, prescriptions for birth control issued by the pharmacy can be filled for up to a total of 2 years (One 12-month supply prescription with up to one renewal based upon a follow-up pharmacist consultation). The self-administered hormonal contraceptives options include: birth control tablets, patch and vaginal ring. This service does not include IUD or injectable birth control, please visit your doctor for additional options available.

What if the birth control option doesn’t work?
Contraceptives are very effective when used correctly. Pharmacists will counsel patients on the proper use of contraceptives and what to do if a contraceptive dose is missed. Pharmacists can also discuss changing the type of hormonal contraceptive if the patient experiences side effects.
